Summary

If you were a journalist, how would you cover a news story so big it could completely overshadow all other world events? How would you carry out your investigation? How many tough questions would you ask? How cautiously would you consult the greatest experts to obtain detailed and accurate answers? An Experienced JournalistGoes In Search Of The Greatest Event Of HistoryTHE PROJECT: To determine whether there is credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth is truly the Son of God。THE REPORTER: Lee Strobel, educated by the faculty of law at Yale University, a former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune and winner of several awards, and well known as an atheist。THE EXPERTS: Twelve scholars, all with doctorates from such universities as Cambridge, Princeton, Brandeis, and other prominent institutions, who are recognized scholars on the life of Jesus。THE STORY: While reflecting on his personal spiritual journey, Strobel interviews the experts, posing questions that are difficult and very direct: How reliable is the New Testament? Is there extrabiblical evidence about Jesus? Is there any reason to believe that the resurrection was indeed a historical fact? 。。。THIS ATTRACTIVE AND INFLUENTIAL BOOK IS NOT A NOVEL。 IT IS AN UNFETTERED SEARCH FOR THE TRUTH ABOUT ONE OF THE MOST PASSIONATE FIGURES IN HISTORY。 AT THE END, THE READER WILL BE ASKED TO EVALUATE THE VERDICT IN THE CASE FOR CHRIST。

This was a really interesting book with a few flaws。 Strobel conducts a series of interviews with relevant professionals (historians, linguists, forensic scientists, psychologists, Biblical scholars) and asks them the questions frequently brought against Christ and Christianity。A lot of the interview conclusions follow the pattern of: (1) Strobel asks incredibly broad question (e。g。 "Did Christians take messianic prophecies out of context and misinterpret them?"), (2) Expert replies with a yes/n This was a really interesting book with a few flaws。 Strobel conducts a series of interviews with relevant professionals (historians, linguists, forensic scientists, psychologists, Biblical scholars) and asks them the questions frequently brought against Christ and Christianity。A lot of the interview conclusions follow the pattern of: (1) Strobel asks incredibly broad question (e。g。 "Did Christians take messianic prophecies out of context and misinterpret them?"), (2) Expert replies with a yes/no answer citing decades of their research, yet without including specifics (e。g。 "I've looked at each objection individually, researching the context and wording in the original language, and every single time the prophecies stand up。") (3) Followed by the obligatory, "But don't take my word for it, research for yourself。"Well, that's why I got this book; because I thought it would be a stepping stone in researching "for myself," but I'm not finding much detail。 Though it is very digestible and covers many topics, I'd prefer to go more in-depth as some of the arguments felt rushed and don't hold up to critical thinking or decent counter-argument。For example: when discussing the prophecies from the Jewish Old Testament that Jesus fulfilled, some speculate that Jesus intentionally fulfilled prophecies by maneuvering his life to do so。 E。g。 He could have read that the Messiah would ride into Jerusalem on a donkey, and then arranged to do just that。 Lee Strobel's coup de grâce is "How could Jesus have planned for his birth?" It doesn't take a genius to suggest that maybe Jesus didn't plan for his birth, he just knew the scriptures well enough to realize his birth lined up with the prophesied time and went from there。 Okay, now that argument is back on the table, but we're onto the next chapter already。 Lots of the exchanges ended this way。This book is a good jumping off point for someone interested in this topic。 It will identify more areas to research。 I've heard Evidence that Demands a Verdict (Anglicized): Life-Changing Truth for a Sceptical World is an encyclopedia on the subject for those who want to dive deeper。 。。。more

Great book to read even if you personally never questioned a certain aspect of Jesus’ life or the Bible。 It gives you an introduction to many topics。 In the future if you or a friend wants to learn more, you can always come back to this book, read the chapter and use the bibliography to continue your research。Think of this as an introduction to many topics with great resources for further reading into each topic。

Very interesting approach。 The writer is a detective。 He visits experts in the field of scholarly work regarding the existence of Jesus! At first I figured I would just breeze through and caulk it up to "NICE TRY。"After I finished reading it I placed the book on the shelf next to my copy of the NIV。 THIS IS A GOOD BOOK ABOUT THE GOOD BOOK。 Very interesting approach。 The writer is a detective。 He visits experts in the field of scholarly work regarding the existence of Jesus! At first I figured I would just breeze through and caulk it up to "NICE TRY。"After I finished reading it I placed the book on the shelf next to my copy of the NIV。 THIS IS A GOOD BOOK ABOUT THE GOOD BOOK。 。。。more

Excellent presentation of the facts surrounding Jesus' life and death written by a former atheist。The only disagreements I've ever encountered with this book comes from people with a vested interest in their self-focused worldview。 That type of person simply refuses to believe。 That's because believing would force them to change their lifestyle - which they don't want to do。 Excellent presentation of the facts surrounding Jesus' life and death written by a former atheist。The only disagreements I've ever encountered with this book comes from people with a vested interest in their self-focused worldview。 That type of person simply refuses to believe。 That's because believing would force them to change their lifestyle - which they don't want to do。 。。。more

What a great book! I am a believer in Christ and found this book restored my faith。 For every argument there was against Christ he had a fact to back it up。 I loved when he said "it will take him more faith for me to maintain my Atheism than to become a Christian。" This book is for the nonbelievers and believers。 A lot of people find themselves like his wife Leslie , never giving up hope and faith that their loved ones will know the truth about Chris。 What a great book! Very compelling and interesting。 Lee Strobel really took it upon himself to devote time, talent and treasure to track down & interview several of the most outstanding experts in various fields to prove to himself the existence of Christ and the Resurrection。 Strobel's own background in criminal reporting is super interesting as well。 What I continually find among those who seek to disprove Christ is that many (most?) of them end up being believers。 Developing & enriching my own relationship with Very compelling and interesting。 Lee Strobel really took it upon himself to devote time, talent and treasure to track down & interview several of the most outstanding experts in various fields to prove to himself the existence of Christ and the Resurrection。 Strobel's own background in criminal reporting is super interesting as well。 What I continually find among those who seek to disprove Christ is that many (most?) of them end up being believers。 Developing & enriching my own relationship with Christ is an ongoing personal endeavor, so this one is definitely an influencer—and inspiring。 。。。more

This book has bolstered my faith significantly。Were I to scale my faith from 1 to 10 then after reading this books my faith went from a 4 to a 6 on how certainly I believe。 This to me is no petty difference。 I expect that as I read more of the resources mentioned in this book then I will again have my faith increased in such a manner。 Praise Christ our Savior!

I had extreme mixed feelings about this book。 I'm a Christian myself, and one who loves researching this Historical Jesus vs。 the Biblical Jesus。 I say this, because I feel like this book should have been an easy win for me, as it simply reaffirms my Christian beliefs。 However, I honestly didn't find it all that convincing。 I've read many better books analyzing the arguments for and against the existence and divinity of Jesus Christ, and this was one just mediocre。 It is organized into a bunch o I had extreme mixed feelings about this book。 I'm a Christian myself, and one who loves researching this Historical Jesus vs。 the Biblical Jesus。 I say this, because I feel like this book should have been an easy win for me, as it simply reaffirms my Christian beliefs。 However, I honestly didn't find it all that convincing。 I've read many better books analyzing the arguments for and against the existence and divinity of Jesus Christ, and this was one just mediocre。 It is organized into a bunch of interviews Strobel had with different Christian experts。 In this I felt was the weakness of the book, because not once does the book take serious consideration for arguments against the general Christian beliefs。 Strobel himself, even though he was an atheist, was never an expert in ancient and Biblical teaching, so many of his questions to the experts felt surface level。 I guess I just wanted a deeper dive instead of a shallow analysis of the historical reasoning in believing in Jesus Christ。 It wasn't a bad book for someone who knows nothing about religion, but it wasn't a great book that I can see, if I had not been Christian, convincing me to become Christian。 。。。more

An incredible resource full of facts regarding the existence of Jesus as described in the Bible and the inerrancy and authority of Scripture。 I loved the intriguing writing style as you go on the journey with Strobel through his investigation。 While facts are helpful in building the “case for Christ”, ultimately this book urges the reader to then consider what does this truth of Christ mean for me, noting “there’s a lot riding on your conclusion”。“。。。if my conclusion in the case for Christ is co An incredible resource full of facts regarding the existence of Jesus as described in the Bible and the inerrancy and authority of Scripture。 I loved the intriguing writing style as you go on the journey with Strobel through his investigation。 While facts are helpful in building the “case for Christ”, ultimately this book urges the reader to then consider what does this truth of Christ mean for me, noting “there’s a lot riding on your conclusion”。“。。。if my conclusion in the case for Christ is correct, your future and eternity hinge on how you respond to Christ。 As Jesus declared, ‘if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins’ (John 8:24)。 Those are sober words, offered out of authentic and loving concern。 I cite them to underline the magnitude of this matter and with the hope that they will spur you to actively and thoroughly examine the case for Christ。” Another great quote:“When I read in the Bible that these sins separated me from God, who is holy and morally pure, this resonated as being true。 Certainly God, whose existence I had denied for years, seemed extremely distant, and it became obvious to me that I needed the cross of Jesus to bridge that gulf。” 。。。more

I remembered being assigned this book i high school and I adored the text。 It was interesting reading someone else’s testimony。 Seeing someone who used to hate God, begin to love God。 Seeing someone who did not believe in Him, start to believe and trust in Him。 It was a read that made me smile, as you watch how God impacts another life, as they began their journey searching why we believe。

This was a very interesting take on exploring Jesus。 I liked how it was very methodical and was written in a manner that allowed the reader to come up with their own conclusions while also showing the importance of really looking at what evidence is available and rationally exploring the value of that evidence。 I really like how each chapter started with an example from a legal case on how each particular type of evidence is used in the law。

Diane Bellows

Oh my gosh—what a book! I definitely recommend this read! It shows Christ in His love toward us and His sacrifice; including what horribly happens medically inside a body (specifically speaking of Jesus) when it is crucified! I highly recommend every Christian (& non-Christian) to read this book by a non-believer who became a believer after his search to disprove the Divinity of Christ。

Fascinating look at evidence from scholars that points to the truth of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection。 Good book to read with book clubs, especially during Lent。

Amazing read from start to finish。 Lee Strobel takes the role of a skeptic and thoroughly puts the person of Jesus and the New Testament under immense scrutiny and cross examination, questioning the leading authorities on 13 different topics including the reliability of the New Testament scriptures and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which to me was a personal favorite。 The chapters of this book unfold as an introduction to each of these major topics and I still use this book as a reference fo Amazing read from start to finish。 Lee Strobel takes the role of a skeptic and thoroughly puts the person of Jesus and the New Testament under immense scrutiny and cross examination, questioning the leading authorities on 13 different topics including the reliability of the New Testament scriptures and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which to me was a personal favorite。 The chapters of this book unfold as an introduction to each of these major topics and I still use this book as a reference for any of the topics it tackles。 A must read! 。。。more

This is an interesting way to describe a historical figure who is also accepted as the Savior of the world by Christians。 The author takes a lawyer’s and journalist’s approach to “proving” things like the resurrection of Jesus。 I recommend it to skeptics and Christians who are open to a different perspective, understanding that this is not a scholarly work。

Lee Strobel is very good at putting things in layman’s terms。 He has a large store of sources from which he pulls and cites which makes his work both understandable and can hold its own in an argument。 This book was fun to read because it hammers home the understanding that to be Christian does not mean to accept everything and not ask questions。 I think when something does not make sense either in our time or in the Bible, we are called to try to make sense of it。 Sure, I don’t think we’ll ever Lee Strobel is very good at putting things in layman’s terms。 He has a large store of sources from which he pulls and cites which makes his work both understandable and can hold its own in an argument。 This book was fun to read because it hammers home the understanding that to be Christian does not mean to accept everything and not ask questions。 I think when something does not make sense either in our time or in the Bible, we are called to try to make sense of it。 Sure, I don’t think we’ll ever know everything in this world。 But we sure can try, and if Lee Strobel is right, our faith will not be chipped away, but will be bolstered by the wealth of evidence。 。。。more
